Two sets of samples from the classic clavinet D6, with the emphasis on exploring new sonic possibilities from this string based keyboard. Sampled through 60’s valve preamps to worn tape to 44khz/24 bit – no eq/compression etc. Distortion and Wah plus external amps turns this into a monster! I’ve created a few unexpected patches, to demonstrate the scope of the clavinet as a different type of synthesizable sound source. I’ve used an extreme azimuth setting on the tape heads , giving a more ‘damaged’, brittle sound. These artifact flecks help the distortion work well – enabling bite on low settings with the clarity of the instrument retained.
