Typically made from wood, the instrument consists of a box or log with slits or tongues carved into it to produce notes when struck.<\/p> <p>The instrument we sampled is a modern incarnation of this concept, built by Steve Roberts of http:\/\/www.tonguedrum.com. Steve\u2019s \u201cBass Giant\u201d model is 23\u201d long, 10\u201d wide and 8\u201d tall. It\u2019s made from African Padauk wood (for the soundboard) and Red Oak for the sides.<\/p> <p>This Bass Giant has 12 notes ranging from G1 to D4.
